5 ways to cool off this summer in Kokomo

As the weather heats up, here are 5 ways to cool off this summer in Kokomo!

  1. Jump in the Al Berryman Memorial Park Splash Pad.  Located at the intersection of North Main and Elm Streets, the splash pad is themed “under the sea” and offers both fountains and sprays (operated by a foot pressed button.)  Shaded seating areas, restroom/changing room and parking are available.  Though open for all ages, this is a great option for younger kids.  Look for the hammerhead shark photo op!
  2.  Check out a local favorite – Spray Days!  It’s likely the largest slip-and-slide you’ll ever see.  A giant tarp is put down and continually sprayed with water by the Kokomo Fire Department.  This free activity is held throughout the summer in local parks.  Upcoming events will be held 1-3 p.m. on July 8 (Mohr Park), July 15 (Jackson Morrow Park) and July 22 (Foster Park.)
  3. For a full day of summer fun, head to Kokomo Beach Family Aquatic Center.  The outdoor waterpark features include high energy water slides, lazy river, kiddie slide, leisure swimming pool, and kid’s splash pad.  In addition, there’s an aquatic playground with slides, dumping buckets, water cannons and mesh tubes.  Restrooms, changing rooms and lockers are available.  Find ticket information and hours here.
  4. Find plenty of shade at Kokomo’s scenic Highland Park.  Enjoy a family picnic or explore the park, home to Old Ben (the World’s Largest Steer), the giant Sycamore Stump, Vermont Covered Bridge, Kokomo Creek, hiking trails, and playground areas.  The Elwood Haynes Museum is located nearby where you can learn about local inventor and early automobile pioneer, Elwood Haynes.
  5. Strawberry, chocolate or vanilla?  Grab an ice cream cone, sherbet or milkshake at one of Kokomo’s local sweet shops or try them all this summer!  Find your favorite cold treats at Cone Palace, Kokomo Frozen Custard, Scoops Ice Cream, Jamie’s Soda Fountain or Dairy Queen.  Find a complete list of Kokomo restaurants and eateries here.
